A New Beginning at the Beginning of the Week

Today we had a great visit to CCLS-Uganda!  We arrived ready to work, play, sing, teach and dance.
We organized activities and opened the MedicaL Clinic right after arriving.  Dr. Killian saw patients all day.  There were 4 cases of malaria which were treated.  Most important was the diagnosis of a pregnant woman, Helen, with Pregnancy Induced Hypertension with Pre-Eclampsia.  She presented with headache and swelling of face and legs at 8 months pregnant.  Her blood pressure was high at 142/96.  This condition can be life threatening for both the Mother and the baby.  We took her to a hospital with her Mother to a hospital in Iganga which is about 15 miles away.  The Ultrasound showed the baby was ok but we admitted her with the help of the on-call physician Dr. Nelson Mahulo.  She will have more tests run and started on low dose medicine to lower her blood pressure.  If things worsen or if the baby is stressed they will have to deliver the baby to save the baby and Mom, Helen.  Please keep her in your prayers.  She is a graduate of CCLS-Uganda.

We also did a first at CCLS-Uganda.  We had a mini-VBS with the preschool children.  It was lead by Diane Belsha, Kindergarten teacher from CCLS-St. Louis.  All the team participated and the children loved it.  It was so joyful and fun.

The team shared the rest of the day with all the children.  Classrooms were observed while teaching and the encouragement of the teaching staff for the students was impressive.  During breaks there was much playing in the courtyard of the school with singing, dancing, soccer, jump rope, running, tumbling and blowing bubbles.  Relationships started and growing.  Lives are being changed as God works in the village of Kawete and at CCLS-Uganda!
