More photos!

We have safely returned. We are blessed by our visit to CCLS-Uganda!  God is good all the time!

Medical Follow-'up

Just a quick note for those following the stories of medical care. First the expecting mother with hypertension is doing well. She will need to take medicine until her delivery in late April but her baby and she will be fine.  The mother who delivered her baby early because her "water" broke early is doing well and her little boy is nursing well and breathing normal despite being 8 weeks early. Finally, the infant girl named Sharifu will be admitted to a National Referral Hospital tomorrow and will be able to have a Vemtriculoperitoneal Shunt placed so she has a chance to grow and develop. Please pray for them all and give thanks to God for us all being part of the solution for these health issues for these beautiful people of Kawete, Uganda!

Last Day in Uganda

Today is our last day. Leaving Kawete was difficult yesterday. We thanked the people for their graciousness and shared that our tears were the sign that God had made our hearts bigger so we may love more. We had a beautiful week in the village. We will miss them but God willing another visit for the fall will be planned.
This infant is 3 days old and doing well. He is 7 weeks early. I saw his mother the day before because her "water" broke. Thank God his lungs are developed enough!

Last day of blessings in Kawete

Today will be our last visit to Kawete. We are all sad after an amazing and wonderful week with the community. We saw around 250 patients, prayed, played, presented new school shirts, painted, made a netball field and made new and deeper friendships with the community. We all are blessed by being here and are connected with a community of faith, joy, love and grace we never dreamed possible! God is good all the time, all the time God is good!

More Photos!

Fabulous Friday in Kawete

We had a great day today at CCLS-Uganda. The blackboard painting was completed. There was a Women's Bible Study led by Beth Miller and Katie Killian and there were about 75 women in attendance. The topic was 1st Corinthians Chapter 13. The women were engaged and encouraged and they all sang and danced. The last of the sponsored children were interviewed. The entire school was given new school uniform shirts and they were so excited and do they look sharp!  Dr Belsha and Dr Killian were busy in the medical clinic and saw another 50 patients. The baby girl with hydrocephalus returned and another ventricular tap was done and the infant looked and felt much better. We are still working on getting a surgical solution worked out so keep the child-Sharifu- in your prayers. Tonight we will be dining on food prepared by some of the team at a hotel kitchen in Jinja. We are going back to that hotel to donor after getting refreshed at the Sunset Hotel. Tomorrow will be our second to last day. We are going to be sad😞
Sharifu is a 3 month old infant with hydrocephalus.  We treated her twice by removing fluid by inserting a small needle through the soft spot into the enlarged ventricles.  We removed about 4 ounces through 2 taps and the soft spot became much less tense with the infant being happier and feeding better.  Please pray for Sharifu that a cure will be made available to her!

Day of Joy in Uganda

We had another amazing day in Kawete! Once again, we played together and shared many laughs and smiles. The young people helped to paint the chalkboards for the school and we continued meeting with the sponsored children.

Dr. Kent and Dr. Craig also had an exciting day in the clinic. A mother from the village came in with her baby who had hydrocephaly (spinal fluid build up around the brain). This condition was putting extreme pressure on the baby's brain and eyes. Dr. Kent felt he had to tap the baby's head and see if some of the fluid could drain. Future medical professionals, Wyatt Conner, Clare Killian, and Alexandra Stoppel, got to watch the procedure. Although the mother was very scared and this procedure was pretty risky in this environment, it was necessary and Dr. Kent was able to drain 2 oz. of fluid from the baby's brain!! It relieved a lot of the pressure and pain from the baby and she was finally able to look up at her mother! Despite the instant relief, the baby will eventually need to have a VP shunt placed in and hopefully we will be able to help the mother get this done in a nearby hospital. We were all so proud of the doctors and their bravery to help save the baby and bring hope to the mother.

Wednesday was Wonderful

We had a wonderful day today.  We started out after another great breakfast. We arrived at the village to the welcoming cheers of the Nusery Students who were playing in the school yard. Dr. Belsha and Dr. Killian went to work in the medical clinic and did not stop til 5:30pm. They helped so women and children. A lot of the older women had high blood pressure. They were given 3 month supplies of medicine. We saw some children with malaria. Dr. Killian is seeing many of the same children and parents. They are all very appreciative of the care given to them!  The young men of the team-Wyatt and Chad-held Bible Study with the older boys of the school. It was awesome  The topic was related to the Ten Commandments.  The team also spent a good part of the day with the sponsored students getting to know them better and sharing the gifts from the sponsors with the students. The joy of the children will be evident from the pictures. The day ended as we left singing and saying goodbye until tomorrow. Saying good bye til next time will be hard.

Tuesday in Kawete

We began the day with shopping for school supplies for all the students. They will all have new notebooks and pencils for the year ahead!  Next we received the good news about Hellen, the young lady with Pregnancy Induced Hypertension! Her labs and tests were all good and the baby is healthy and about 29 weeks gestational age!  Her blood pressure is normalized with medicine and she was able to leave the hospital and go home! She will receive close follow-up by Nusre Stella until she delivers in 8 weeks. Prayer for Hellen will be helpful!  At school today there was a lot of activity. The girls did a Bible Study in their dormitory with Jacquelind, Clare, Miranda, Bridget, and Elizabeth all participating!  It encouraged the young women to appreciate their inner beauty and value as revealed by Jesus!  Wyatt and Chad played soccer til they were worn out by the CCLS Uganda boys!  Dr. Belsha and Dr. Killian spent the day in the Medical Clinic and saw about 50 patients. Alexandra and Wyatt helped in the clinic as well. We then ended the day with the school assembly and dismissal and prayer of thanks for the day. It was a great day. God is present here with the beautiful people of Uganda!
